JOB SUMMARY:
Provides support to Technical Services – Horticulture, Ride and Show, and Facilities Maintenance departments, as well as other divisions across UO, with all aspects and requirements for tree maintenance, removal and relocation. Shall obtain and hold a MOT (Maintenance of Traffic) card for lane closures, and traffic maintenance.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operate all heavy equipment, being adept in using a bucket truck and high reach to prune, move, install, and remove trees and palms. In addition, being proficient in the operation and maintenance of chipper and all 2-cycle equipment, i.e., Chain saws, power pole saws, and back-pack or handheld blowers. Complete Maximo Work Orders.
- Climb trees for proper maintenance and removal within UO climbing and rigging guidelines based on ANSI A300 standards. Including the ability to perform specific climbing knots, i.e., Bowline hitch, half hitch, double half hitch, and slip knot.
- Responsible for risk assessments of UO trees and proper documentation in the PM system.
- Identification of proper tree nutrition and/or deficiencies.
- Rigging trees for proper lifting and transport. Being capable of applying the essential techniques used for tree lifting i.e.: Choke strapping, barrel strapping, saddle strapping, and pinning.
- Assists with training new and current team members on industry and UO standards, policies, and procedures.
- Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
High school degree or GED preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
- 4 or more years: in arboriculture settings, Tree Climbing experience (3 or more Years): extensive knowledge of knots, chainsaw safety, and aerial lift experience are preferred.
- 1 year or more experience in Risk Assessments of trees and palms.
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Class B CDL required
- ISA Certified Arborist required
- ISA Tree Risk Assessment Certification required, MOT (Method of Traffic) certification from DOT required.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- This job requires extensive physical job duties and the ability to climb and trim trees at long intervals.
- Must also be proficient in rigging and climbing; and have extensive knowledge of tree identification, tree physiology, proper tree pruning technique, tree risk assessments, and identification of proper tree nutrition and/or deficiencies.
- In addition to the use of specific knot tying, strategic climbing, and the use of power tools while in the trees and on the ground.
- Must have the ability to operate and work out of a bucket truck and high reach at heights up to but not limited 50 feet.
