Purpose
- To provide support to the Tax Director with achieving departmental goals and implementing the regional tax strategy for Mexico
- This role will be heavily involved in the Federal tax audit and controversy matters and will involve coordinating various activities between the taxpayer, legal counsel and tax authorities including, but not limited to, preparing responses to tax authority queries, gathering, and reviewing information collected from both internal and external parties and ensuring that proper defense files are maintained.
- Support the Tax planning and risk management, by conducting tax research, coordinating the execution of statutory tax audits, executing income tax controls, and providing internal tax advice on transactions.
- Role will also be expected to contribute to the timely preparation and limited review of income tax computations for reporting and statutory tax filing purposes and estimate cash taxes for forecasting and budgeting purposes.
Duties and Responsibilities 1
Coordinate Federal tax audits.
Respond to tax authorities (SAT) information requests and provide explanations.
Reconcile SAT position to Newmont position.
Review audit reports and make input to address issues raised.
Provide support to external advisors to have enough information to prepare conclusive agreements or Administrative appeals.
Prepare defense files to anticipate work for future tax audits
Maintain a reliable tax filing system, while consulting with other departments to coordinate information for tax audits.
Generate continuous improvement initiatives
Set up system for tax budgeting and forecasting process especially as it relates to tax audit and controversy matters
Contribute to compiling the annual budget and revised forecasts.
Duties and Responsibilities 2
Submit accurate numbers for approval and on a timely basis.
Investigate deviations from budget during the quarterly forecasting processes.
Manage UTP computation templates.
Review tax provision calculations, tax accounts balance reconciliations review, tax projections review, transfer pricing transactions review.
Report on variance investigations and explanations.
Supervise recording of approved journals and participation in tax accounting calls.
Retrieve data from SAP and BPC.
Obtain schedules from stakeholders and incorporate same in tax computations.
Provide support to verify tax calculations and to comply with tax obligation (monthly, annual, and informative tax returns)
Verify tax compliance and avoid penalties.
Generate continuous improvement initiatives and advise Senior Tax Manager from time to time.
Support Tax Director by planning, coordinating, and executing major tax projects assigned
Proactively manage potential Project risks and ensure timely completion.
Requirements
Strong English-speaking skills a must.
Experience to manage an ERP accounting system / SAP
Deep knowledge to interpret and applying Tax Laws and treaties to avoid double taxation.
Advanced knowledges of Excel program
Deep knowledge of Federal tax audit process, timelines, and defense process taxpayers can apply and procedure to apply them.

Experience
Minimum 7 years experience with at least 5 years working in a tax compliance or advisory position with a “Big 4” accounting firm.
Experience working in-house for a mining company is a plus.
Strong analytical, problem solving, communication, leadership and project management skills.
