Treasure Coast Newspapers/TCPalm.com , part of the USA Today Network, is seeking a watchdog reporter to cover local government in its three-county area on Florida’s east coast. The successful candidate will do more than attend city council meetings and write stories about process. He/she will focus on enterprise and investigative coverage, digging into issues, not settling for simplistic answers from bureaucrats. This reporter will put government spending (and those who do the spending) under a microscope — assuring readers their taxes are being spent wisely — and tell those stories in engaging and innovative ways and on a variety of digital and print platforms. He/she also will identify issues and trends relevant throughout the state, reporting and writing them from a broad perspective for use across the USA Today Network-Florida, stretching from the East and West coasts to Tallahassee and the Panhandle.

This multimedia journalist should have a track record of finding great stories and be experienced in using social media both in reporting and in promoting them. He/she should be adept at source development; have experience using public records, databases and other digital-focused tools; bring a rock-solid knowledge of AP style; and demonstrate a proven ability to meet daily and weekend deadlines.

This job is based in Stuart, Florida, with coverage throughout the Treasure Coast. Requirements include a bachelor’s degree in journalism or equivalent education. Previous municipal reporting and at least three years of experience at a daily newspaper or equivalent media are preferred. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.

Application Instructions:

When applying, please include a single document with as much of the following as possible: a brief cover letter explaining your interest and fit for the position, your updated resume, and portfolio/clips/links to a few samples of your work. It’s important that these items be combined into a single document, preferably in PDF format. The application will only allow one document upload. Completing these steps will ensure that you receive the highest consideration.

In addition to your application, you may also email your resume and materials to TDenfeld@gannett.com to ensure you are directly considered.
