Job Description:

The Nicholson School of Communication and Media (NSCM) in the College of Sciences at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for a visiting instructor or lecturer position in the Communication program. This is a nine-month, non-tenure-track appointment, annually renewable for up to four academic years (maximum) that includes teaching and service-based duties. The anticipated start date is December 23, 2020.

The ideal candidate will show evidence of a commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students, service to the department, university, profession, and leadership to oversee service assignments for the program. Additionally, we are especially interested in an individual who can contribute through their teaching and service to our academic community's diversity and excellence and foster an environment in which faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds, cultures, and personal experiences are welcomed and can thrive.

Instructional duties will include teaching four courses per semester ('4-4') in the general education program (e.g., Fundamentals of Oral Communication, Fundamentals of Technical Speaking, Introduction of Communication, etc.), as well as other communication courses based on student demand, instructor expertise, and the unit's current workload policy.

Service-based duties include appropriate engagement in student advising, internship supervision, participation in the Communication program and NSCM's academic life, and serving on various committees as appropriate for an instructor or lecturer in the school.

Minimum Qualifications:

A master's degree (for an instructor) or a Ph.D. (for a lecturer) in Communication or a closely related field from an accredited institution by the time of appointment. Candidate must possess no less than two years of experience teaching Communication, especially Public Speaking as the instructor of record. Evidence of effective teaching in general education communication courses is also required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates who have evidence of effective teaching in a variety of delivery modes (e.g., face-to-face, online, mixed modes, large lecturer, small skills classes), as well as experience integrating service-learning and other high-impact practices into their courses. A scholarship of teaching and learning interest is also preferred.
