SHIFT: Nights (rotating weekends)

SCHEDULE: Full-time

As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will perform stat and routine clinical laboratory testing in technical discipline areas in which individual and department are licensed under the oversight of a Medical Technologist and direction of a Laboratory Supervisor, Manager or Director. Your duties will be consistent with written procedures and regulatory requirements. You will demonstrate a general understanding of the theoretical concepts of laboratory medicine to ensure timely and accurate results.You will also perform non-technical duties including, but not limited to, specimen collection, processing and referral testing within the department as required. You will be in support of the department in achieving goals for service, quality, regulatory compliance, financial performance, patient satisfaction, healthy work environment, and integration of intra and inter-departmental activities.


You Will:

 

  • Demonstrate responsibility and accountability in the performance of accurate and timely laboratory testing

  • Ensure that your work is organized and performed according to section procedure manual so that other personnel can follow workflow

  • Make sure that proficiency testing samples are analyzed according to instructions and are completed within the allowable time frame

  • Utilize sound judgment to appropriately seek guidance from medical technologists, supervisors, department head, and medical director in the review and interpretation of clinical laboratory data

  • Consistently complete all required records/documentation pertaining to patient results

  • Perform stat procedures, timed studies, and routine tests within established turnaround time targets

  • Demonstrate ability to deal with priorities first, and plans for completion of remaining duties

  • Review pending logs (OSR) and result logs; resolve any outstanding workload or communicates to staff relief

  • Demonstrate the ability to use good judgment and independent thinking in the correlation and interpretation of patient results

  • Perform quality control procedures per protocol and completes necessary documentation

  • Take pertinent corrective action when the patient, control, standard, calibration and/or proficiency results are not within appropriate guidelines

  • Assist supervisor in meeting department regulatory agency requirements (CAP, etc.)

  • Ensure that equipment is operated correctly and periodic maintenance is performed according to schedule

  • Utilize reagents and supplies appropriately

  • Maintain education and development appropriate for position

 

Qualifications

You Should Have:

  • A 2 Year/Associate Degree in Science is required
  • A State of Florida Technician License OR the ability to obtain the license 
  • Less than one year of previous experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician
  • 1-3 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting
Additional Information:
  • You should have availability to work during disasters 
  • The ability to frequently stand, bend, reach, squat, kneel, move, and lift patients and/or equipment up to 50 pounds
