Responsibilities

The Fleet Operations team at Draper is seeking an experienced candidate to join us in a multidisciplinary team environment, focused on delivering solutions to challenging problems in direct support of the Navy’s Trident Guidance System program. This candidate will plan, coordinate, and work through a variety of Fleet matters ranging from managing and troubleshooting established operationally deployed systems, to addressing real time Fleet issues and providing solutions to ensure continued operations of the countries’ premier Strategic Weapon System. Additionally, this individual will work with the Guidance Systems Integration and Test team to execute test design, test conduct, data processing and analysis, and report generation. This individual will be working at the Navy Guidance Test Facility on the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

The individual will be responsible to work directly with staff located at other sites, ensure issues are resolved in a timely manner, and communicate status with upper management. The individual will strive to improve efficiency within the organization and work with task leadership on annual and out-year tasking plans. The individual will possess effective communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment. Travel to off-site locations will be required.

The individual will be responsible for the following:

  • Tracking and reporting of daily Fleet activities, communicating updates with the Fleet Operations team and management.
  • Managing priorities and executing work assignments as assigned by the Task Lead
  • Provide onboard SSBN technical support during Demonstration and Shakedown Operations
  • Provide technical support as necessary in new Missile Simulation Center in Littleton, CO.
  • Integration and testing of SWS systems including test design, development, and execution
  • Operating specialized test equipment to support evaluation of inertial sensors and systems
  • Collaborating with engineering staff to design, plan, and execute tests
  • Operating computer systems at a Secret level
  • Ability to travel for short periods, typically less than one week
  • Qualifications

    This position seeks a candidate with the following qualifications:

  • Engineer with bachelor of science in EE, ME, CE/CS or Physics.
  • Experience related to Trident Strategic Weapons System, Fleet Operations, and documentation preferred
  • A current (or ability to obtain) a security clearance at the Top Secret Level
  • The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and capable of working at a high technical level with minimal supervision in a team environment
  • Excellent communication, collaborative, and interpersonal skills are required working in a process oriented environment complying with procedures
  • Experience in any of the following areas would be a plus: Test Interface Definition, Integration and Testing of HW and SW elements, Commercial Test Instrumentation (power supplies, meters, etc.), and electronics-based components and subassemblies (breadboard HW, etc.).
  • Ability to Document activities such as test plans, procedures, configuration and test results
  • Ability to lead a project team and project.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, SIMULINK, and LabVIEW.
  • Security Clearance and U.S. Citizenship is required.
