Job Description

Position Overview:

KIPP Public Schools Jacksonville seeks a founding high school band teacher. In the initial year, the band teacher would instruct the founding class of ninth graders. Some continuing students from a KIPP middle school will have a foundation in band instruction while new students may not have been exposed to band instruction. As the school grows, the band teacher would instruct students across multiple grade levels and/or sections, coordinate and supervise performances, and inventory instruments. The band/music team would ensure students are exposed to band instruction and allow every student to have access to an instrument. Long-term, the vision for band is to include a marching band, a jazz ensemble, and a drumline.

We are seeking a teacher that will be committed to providing quality music education that complements a rigorous academic program. The band teacher would have a vision for band performances that they plan and run smoothly. This position would work closely with the electives department. Teachers are responsible for creating a positive classroom environment, implementing curriculum, assessing students, collaborating with their team, building relationships with families, and other duties as assigned. Full teacher responsibilities are ultimately outlined by their school leader.

For the 2020-21 school year, teachers at KIPP Public Schools Jacksonville work from 7:30 a.m. - 4:15 p.m., Monday through Friday and may have occasional meetings or special school events outside of these hours. This would include organizing and running student performances. Student hours are typically 7:45 a.m. - 3:45 p.m. Hours for teachers and students vary slightly by school. Every Wednesday is a student early release day (1:30 p.m.), which allows teachers to participate in weekly professional development.
