Job Description:

The Department of Legal Studies in the College of Community Innovation and Education (CCIE) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for a visiting lecturer position with the primary assignment at the UCF Downtown campus.

Duties will include teaching the equivalent of four courses per semester (both face-to-face and by web-delivery). This is a nine-month, non-tenure earning position, renewable up to three (3) additional years (up four years total) that includes teaching and service duties. The anticipated start date is December 23, 2020.

The successful candidate will contribute to the mission of the Department of Legal Studies through teaching courses in our newly created undergraduate and graduate certificates in Conflict Resolution and Analysis. Courses may include mediation, conflict resolution, and negotiations. The successful candidate will also be expected to teach courses within our core curriculum.

This position is among those that are based at the UCF Downtown campus which opened in 2019. Located in Downtown Orlando, the new campus is home to 7,700 UCF and Valencia College students studying degree programs that align with emerging industries and within walking distance of jobs and internships. The Department of Legal Studies offers undergraduate degrees (B.A./B.S.) in Legal Studies, multiple interdisciplinary undergraduate certificates and a graduate certificate to a diverse student body preparing students for success in law school, graduate school, and the legal profession. The department serves approximately 900 Legal Studies majors, has 15 full-time faculty and four staff members. Students have opportunities for legal internships and advanced undergraduate research in the university’s Honors in the Major program. Minimum Qualifications:

A J.D. from an accredited ABA-approved law school and a member in good standing of a state bar. Applicants must have experience teaching higher education law or legal studies courses.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates who possess (1) an advanced degree (masters or doctoral) or practical experience in conflict resolution and/or mediation fields, (2) other experience practicing law (private or governmental), or (3) previous online teaching experience.
