Job Description:

The University of Central Florida’s (UCF) Department of Writing and Rhetoric invites applications to fill a visiting instructor or lecturer position, renewable up to four years. This is a nine-month, non-tenure-earning appointment with an anticipated start date of January 2021. This position will have a 4/4 teaching load in a dynamic first-year writing program with over 25 full-time instructors and lecturers. The successful applicant will have demonstrated experience teaching college composition and will work full-time primarily in our first-year composition courses (ENC 1101 and 1102) as part of our nationally award-winning writing about writing curriculum. Teaching modes may include face-to-face, mediated/hybrid, and fully online.

The Department of Writing and Rhetoric is an award-winning, vibrant, independent writing department. Our department is nationally known for its commitment to writing about writing pedagogy, and our first-year composition program won the CCCC Certificate of Excellence in 2013. Minimum Qualifications:

• A master’s degree (for an instructor) or terminal degree (for a lecturer) from an accredited institution in Rhetoric and Composition or a related field (e.g., English, education, sociolinguistics, communication, second language acquisition, or other fields in which writing and rhetoric are a significant focus of study).

• At least two years of experience teaching composition courses at the college level.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Substantial graduate coursework in Rhetoric and Composition or a related field from an accredited institution.

• Demonstrated excellence in teaching college composition courses and in working with a range of diverse writer populations.

• Experience teaching writing in online learning environments with particular preference in Canvas.

• Interest in or experience teaching with a writing about writing approach to college composition.
