IDS is looking for a UX Designer to plan, design, and develop web applications and web pages using code and visual design tools. A successful candidate will work independently but collaborate with the rest of the development team to design various web applications for our product, SMEIR. This role is expected to ensure an exceptional user experience and will report to the Senior Software Engineer. Our headquarters are located in Arlington, VA but we are open to remote candidates.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify design problems and devise elegant solutions.
  • Analyze user data to evaluate user interfaces for existing applications.
  • Identify areas of improvement and provide time-sensitive solutions.
  • Work with project managers and engineers to create innovative improvements to web applications.
  • Translate concepts into user flows, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes that lead to intuitive user experiences.
  • Facilitate client’s product vision by researching, conceiving, sketching and user testing experiences for web-based product.
  • Incorporate feedback from other team members to facilitate product improvements.
  • Understand our customers and serve as their advocate when making design decisions.
  • Make strategic design and user-experience decisions related to core and new functionality and rapidly test and iterate designs.
  • Deliver assets to agile development teams and refine as needed during project sprints.
  • Define and maintain visual style guides and developing assets.
  • Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience in software engineering, web design, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in UX design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, OmniGraffle, Axure, InVision, UXPin, Balsamiq and Framer.
  • Experience with HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
  • Proven experience as a UX Designer, UI Designer or similar role for Enterprise Software and Web-based applications.
  • Thorough understanding of User-Centered Design (UCD) and related topics such as A/B testing, rapid prototyping, and heuristic analysis.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer or software engineering or other relevant field.

  • Must be an effective communicator both verbally and in writing. Most positions require ability to work on a desktop or laptop computer for extended periods of time. Computer activities include reading, reviewing and analyzing information, as well as providing recommendations, summaries, and reports in written or verbal format. Additionally, positions require ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods; use hand(s) to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; as well as speak and hear.

    Employee may be required to occasionally lift and/or move moderate amounts of weight, typically less than 20 pounds. Regular and predictable attendance is essential.
