SCHEDULE: PRN/Per Diem

PRN Opportunity for an RDMS Ultrasound Tech
As Needed + Call Shifts Available
Expectation: 1-2 Shifts Weekly (Days + Evenings), Including Weekends

Serving the community since 1976, Northside Hospital is a 288-bed facility offering a full range of services including interventional stroke care; full-service orthopedic and spine treatment; a 24-hour emergency department; preventative and corrective cardiac care; and general surgery.  As the only nationally recognized Comprehensive Stroke Center in Pinellas County, our technologically advanced facility allows our superior physicians and nursing staff to care for our growing community.  Our focus on quality and safety is continuously recognized by The Joint Commission.  With campus-based specialized units, such as the Tampa Bay Heart Institute; the Neuroscience Institute for Interventional Neuroradiology and neurologic care; an outpatient Heart Failure Clinic; and Fast Track emergency service, Northside Hospital continues to enhance and expand its services to better serve the St. Petersburg community.  Northside Hospital is a Tampa Bay Times Top Workplaces 2020 winner (Top Large Workplaces #23) and is the only hospital in St. Pete to obtain a Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade A (Spring 2020).

Northside Hospital is currently accepting applications for an Ultrasound Technologist (Sonographer) on a PRN/per diem/as-needed basis in our Ultrasound Department. ARDMS (AB) registry plus BLS required; RVT preferred. Flexible availability to cover various shifts on weekdays (day and evening) and weekends is necessary for consideration. Please note, Northside Hospital has a 30-minute response window.

The Ultrasound Technologist (Tech) is responsible for producing quality diagnostic ultrasound studies ready for radiologist interpretation.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 
  • Perform general and vascular ultrasound exams (abdomen, pelvis, small parts, peripheral vascular, carotid, TCD)
  • Assist the radiologist in ultrasound-guided procedures (paracentesis, thoracentesis, biopsy, aspiration)
  • Demonstrates concern and empathy while performing procedures in a careful, compassionate and respectful manner
  • Prepare and position patients and equipment is a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures

  • Maintain proactive, effective communication with patient and physicians regarding any and all findings, patient histories and test results as appropriate; Collaborate and confer with colleagues and members of the healthcare team

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited program for ultrasonographers
  • Current ultrasound registry (ARDMS); Abdomen and RVT preferred
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Minimum of one (1) year post-graduate hospital experience in an acute-care setting as an Ultrasound Tech; Two (2) years experience, or more, preferred
  • Must live within 30 minutes of the hospital for call-back
  • Customer service abilities, including effective listening skills
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 lbs.
