COMPETITION OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

The Human Resources Section wishes to announce an anticipatory staffing process for a position as Senior Trade Officer (Agriculture) at the LE-O2 level within the Consulate General of Canada in Monterrey. This staffing process will serve to build an eligibility list of qualified candidates at the same level, which could also be used for indeterminate appointments or temporary assignment (acting) at the same level and for similar positions, within the whole Canadian Diplomatic Network in Mexico.

Job Description:

Working in the international business development team of the Consulate General of Canada in Monterrey, under the general direction of the Senior Trade Commissioner, the incumbent responsibilities include: identifying and qualifying business opportunities for Canadian companies and guiding them in the local market; developing strategies to support and advance the planning and implementation of the Trade program; conducting or leading complex research and analysis of trends and issues that could have a significant impact on the Trade program, establishing and maintaining a network of contacts in the territory; as well as revising and developing policy and/or project related documents.

  • Anticipated Start date: July 1, 2021
  • Level and Salary: Level LE-O2 (Base salary at step 1) = 801,270.00 MXN pesos per year (37.5 hours / week) + benefits package
  • Please Note: The eligibility list from this competition may be used for openings at the same level for indeterminate and temporary opportunities within the Canadian Diplomatic Mission in Mexico. When you submit your application, you must specify if you wish to be considered for both types of employment or only one of them.
  • Statement of Essential Qualifications:

    Candidates are required to clearly demonstrate how they meet the screening requirements (education, experience, language) in their CV and cover letter (please refer to the section on how to apply for more details).

    Only those candidates who are screened into the process will be contacted with details of further assessment.

    EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree (“título”) from a recognized university
  • Candidates must meet the education requirement when applying for the position (i.e. before the closing date) and they will be required to provide proof of the completion of their education degree to be able to attend the assessment stage.
  • EXPERIENCE

  • Significant** experience in business development either in the private or public sector, in the Agriculture and processed foods sector in Mexico.
  • Significant** experience in working with external clients and in providing client service/support
  • Significant** experience in providing strategic advice, briefings, and written reports to management and/or clients on international business issues.
  • Significant experience in organizing and delivering trade promotion events or missions.
  • Significant experience in developing and maintaining networks of business contacts in Mexico.
  • Significant experience in gathering market intelligence and using it to assess risk and opportunities. 
  • **Significant experience is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally obtained during the course of at least three years of work in a similar role.

    LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT

  • Fluency (oral and written business communication) in Spanish and one of Canada’s official languages (English or French) is essential.
  • Languages proficiency will be assessed.

    Rated Requirements:

    Candidates must also meet the Rated Requirements shown below, which may be assessed through any of the following: written test, oral communication, role play, interviews and reference checks. All qualifications must be met.

    KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of the Agriculture and processed foods sector in Mexico including government organizations, principle players, distribution channels, and local business practices.
  • Knowledge of Canada’s export capability, client issues and concerns.
  • Knowledge of trends and recent developments in the Canadian and Mexican economies.

  • Experience in business development either in the private or public sector, in any one of the following Mexican sectors: 
  • Clean technology
  • Manufacturing (aerospace, defence)
  • Mining
  • Oil and gas
  • Innovation
  • Life science
  • Operational Requirements

  • The willingness and ability to work overtime may be an operational requirement as work schedule is subject to change
  • Occasional travel within Mexico and abroad (mostly Canada). The successful candidate must be able to obtain and hold a valid passport during the period of employment.
  • Conditions of employment

  • Ability to obtain and maintain the required security clearance.
