Florida is a state of outdoor activity that includes some of the wildest weather, environmental phenomenon, frightening creatures and powerful storms in the country. The South Florida Sun Sentinel is looking for a reporter who can harness these audience-favorite topics into a powerful new beat we’re calling the Wild Florida Reporter.

Responsibilities

You’ll be our main reporter for the most critical news topic we cover for our community: Hurricanes. From tracking the storms to explaining the science behind them, you’ll be an authority our readers come to depend on for information.

Hurricanes don’t come around all year, but Florida’s wild weather never stops. So, you’ll cover that too, whether it’s dust from the Saharan dessert, waterspouts tossing boats, ash from Everglades fires covering cars, mysterious plumes of algae on our beaches, and so much more.

But you’re our Wild Florida reporter which means more than weather. It’s also Florida’s crazy wildlife — giant iguanas, alligators, pythons, super termites, fire ants… well, the list is endless.

You will need to be the lightning-fast, breaking news reporter during some of our biggest news events. And you will need to be the curious investigator seeking out the best of wild Florida and writing with a compelling touch.
