SCHEDULE: Full-time

UCFLake Nona Medical Center (UCFLNMC) is located in the southern Orlando suburb ofLake Nona, which is known as Medical City. UCFLNMC is a partnershipfacility owned by HCA Healthcare and the University of Central Florida Collegeof Medicine.  It will be the first teaching hospital in CentralFlorida. Construction began in October 2018. Slated to open in early 2021,the 204,079-square-foot, 64-bed facility is expected to create more than 300jobs when it opens late next year. 

  

UCFLNMC is located immediatelyadjacent to the UCF College of Medicine. It will be just minutes from theOrlando International Airport and will be easily accessible from major roadsincluding Florida’s Turnpike, State Road 417 and the East-West Expressway.

 

ThePatient Care Technician (PCT) delivers high quality, patient-centered care byperforming a variety of delegated basic patient care services related to commonnursing functions and activities of daily living. Under the supervision of theregistered nurse (RN), the PCT assists the nursing staff in providing patientcare in accordance with the PCT’s skills/training and the needs of theDepartment, and consistently assists the patient care team with maintaining aclean, well-organized, and safe patient care environment. The PCT complies withall hospital policies/procedures and observes the State Board of Nursing rulesfor unlicensed personnel.


Position Summary:

  • Participatesin the implementation of nursing care plans by performing direct and indirectpatient care under the supervision of the licensed nurse.
  • Obtainsand records initial and ongoing patient information throughout the cycle ofcare, including admissions data, vital signs, height and weight, bloodpressure, oxygen saturation, blood glucose levels, intake and output, andcalorie counts.
  • Documentsobservations, interactions, patient responses to performed activities, and anyphysical or behavioral changes at time of occurrence. Reports observations ofindividual patients to the RN/Team Leader.
  • Assistswith mobility by regular turning and positioning, dangling, and ambulatingpatients.  Assists with use of walkers, crutches, canes, and wheelchairs.Transfers patients to and from other units, departments, or entities. Assists with discharges.  Demonstrates proper body mechanics.
  • Providesor assists with non-medicated support care, including non-sterile dressingchanges, skin protection, application of heat or ice, and venous compressiondevices.
  • Obtainsor assists in the collection of specimens for diagnostic or waived tests.Ensures accuracy of all labels and timely transfer of specimen.
  • Retrievesmedication from pharmacy, storage room, or tube system and delivers to licensedstaff member as instructed.
  • Assistswith patient preparation for surgery or other procedure.
  • Orientspatients/families/caregivers to room and hospital routine.
  • Assistspatients with activities of daily living to include eating and drinking,bathing, shaving, oral care, grooming, and elimination.  Changes bedlinens as needed.
  • Performshourly rounding and responds promptly to call lights and patient requests.Strives to anticipate patient needs and resolve them proactively. 
  • Followspatient and employee safety/security policies and protocols, including handhygiene, use of universal precautions, use of personal protective equipment, andadherence to isolation procedures.
  • Preparesand maintains clean, hazard-free patient rooms. Empties trash and removessoiled linens.
  • Assistswith post-mortem care.
  • Assistsin the setup, removal, and cleaning of equipment.  Identifiesmalfunctioning equipment and initiates repairs.
  • Performsclerical work as needed, including assembling and maintain charts, filing,answering and transferring phones, and relaying messages.
 
Education:
  • HighSchool Diploma or equivalent (GED), CNA Training Program preferred.
 
Experience
  • 1+years of experience in an acute care setting preferred
 
Licensure/Certification
  • CertifiedNursing Assistant in State of Florida
  • CurrentAHA BLS required.
