Job Purpose

Our London & South East regional team are looking for a Partnerships & External Relationships Manager to join them as they shape and deliver ambitious and exciting plans for the years ahead. We’re the charity helping millions of people feel happier and healthier by spending more time on and along our canals and rivers. Our waterways provide places to pause, relax, get fit and escape. Now, possibly more than ever, we want to ensure that the message of what our waterways can offer to all our local communities, businesses and organisations is heard and experienced by as many people as possible. It takes an extraordinary team to bring our waterways to life and that’s where you come in.

Reporting directly to the Regional Director, you will play an important role as a member of the London & South East regional leadership team. As an engaged and contributing member of the Leadership team your role will be to support your small team of direct reports and work with the wider team to deliver and grow an ambitious, long-term regional strategy.

The base location is at our Little Venice office, near Paddington Station, however currently our office based colleagues continue to work from home as we appropriately observe social distancing requirements, and until such a time that we are able to safely return all colleagues to the office environment. It is therefore possible to offer some flexibility at present , however candidates must expect to travel to the Little Venice office in the future.

Your role as Partnerships & External Relationships Manager is to; 

  • Support the Trust‘s objectives of increasing brand awareness, gaining wider public and institutional support and delivering health and wellbeing outcomes.
  • Broaden the profile and influence of the Trust and Region with new and existing audiences.
  • Identify new potential partners and developing pathways for increasing engagement while strengthening existing partnerships which all deliver the Trust’s strategic ambitions.
  • Mapping external stakeholders, building and maintaining strong personal links, relationships and alliances.
  • Proactively undertaking networking opportunities and high level representation of the Trust.
  • Developing projects and initiatives with partners and funders, creating sustainable delivery mechanisms.
  • All of the above to be delivered in a way that remains sensitive to and highly alert to these particularly unpredictable times across UK,when our focus and the focus of our partners may well have adjusted significantly to respond to such times of change.

    About the role

    Key Accountabilities;

  • Creatively capitalise on a range of potential opportunities identified through networking and horizon scanning to deliver regional priorities.
  • Ensuring the development of a Regional Enterprise funding strategy that identifies key funding opportunities and external partners.
  • Leading on the development of the regional communications and public affairs strategy, overseeing its delivery and ensuring it has a positive impact on the Trust profile and reputation as a waterway and wellbeing charity.
  • Driving outstanding performance through coaching, mentoring and strong line management and the development of a high performing team.
  • Creating a culture of accountability for the delivery of ambitious targets.
  • Responsible for ensuring collaborative working within the team and with wider regional and national colleagues.
  • Ensuring the delivery of sufficient external resources to enable the implementation of projects and initiatives.
  • Ensuring the region is optimising the use of social media.
  • Ensure opportunities are maximised for corporate engagement that results in support for regional ambitions.
  • About you

    Through your small, experienced and skilled team of direct reports you will be accountable for effectiveness and delivery of several important streams of activity for this region. To succeed in this role, however, we are particularly keen to find someone who can offer significant enterprise knowledge, and has relevant experience of strategy for funding and exploring opportunities for links to initiatives, other businesses, and funding streams. 

    Essential skills, knowledge & experience 

  • Educated to degree level in relevant discipline, or with demonstrable successful relevant senior experience
  • Experience of charity sector, not for profit, heritage or environment, customer focused organisation
  • Experience and knowledge of funding sector with direct experience of shaping strategies and proven track record of delivering resources from a range of sources.
  • Successfully developed, built and maintained relationships with regional partners, councillors & communities in order delivering an enhances and tangible support for the organisation
  • Strategic partnership development and relationship management
  • Ability to influence, persuade and negotiation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and people management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills – strong presenter.
  • Experienced at networking and understanding the sector.
  • Understanding the public affairs environment and delivery mechanisms.
  • Creative thinker, team player.
  • Able to demonstrate leadership of high performing multi-disciplinary team.
  • Driving licence - this role will require you to travel across the region, and car cash allowance is provided.

    What We Offer

    The Partnerships & External Relationships Manager role is based at our Little Venice office, however we continue to work from home currently and until such a time that we are able to offer a safe return to the office environment for all. The role reports to the Regional Director.

    In addition to your annual salary of £40,000-£45,000 we offer car cash allowance & Inner London allowance, as stated at top of advert.
