Job Description:
The Operating Room Orderly is responsible for performing routine cleaning duties, assisting staff with turnover of operating rooms between cases to optimize operating room utilization, assisting staff with lifting, positioning, and the transportation of patients, as well as the movement of equipment.
- Damp dust operating rooms that have no scheduled cases, in the event they need to be utilized at a later time.
- Cleans operating rooms between cases according to the postsurgical clean up procedure.
- Cleans and returns all used equipment to its proper place after the surgical procedure.
- Disposes of all suction canisters after the case is completed.
- Assists in positioning patients for regional anesthesia or for skin prepping.
- Frequently checks the scrub areas to be sure all scrub brushes are disposed of properly and floors are free of water and soap.
- Responsible for straightening and stocking the Physician’s Lounge with caps, masks, and shoe covers.
- Ensures that all linen and garbage are bagged and placed in proper containers for processing by environmental services.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
1-3 years relevant experience preferred
BLS issued through the American Heart Association required
Good interpersonal and communication skills
