Job Information

The Department of Biological Sciences invites applications from academically qualified and professionally experienced individuals for three non-tenure track, 12-month, open-rank Instructor positions (referred to as Teaching Professors at FIU) in the areas of Ecology and Evolution, and Genetics and Evolution, and Developmental Biology, to grow and support our online Biology BA program. Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. in the biological sciences, experience with developing online courses and online teaching, and dedication to providing an enriching learning experience. Willingness to teach active learning courses is required and experience in active learning classes is preferred. The Department of Biological Sciences is committed to developing novel learning activities that will prepare students for success in a fast-paced global environment. To maximize opportunity and experience for our diverse student population, we value and seek diversity in applicants for these positions.

Ecology, Evolution, and Genetics are high-enrollment required upper division courses taught every semester and Developmental Biology is a high-enrollment upper division Biology elective. Teaching in other undergraduate upper and lower division courses may also be expected, depending on specialization and departmental needs. More information on these courses can be found on our website at http://biology.fiu.edu. The Department of Biological Sciences has ~4500+ undergraduate majors, ~120 graduate students, and 65 faculty members on two large campuses (http://www.fiu.edu/about-us/campuses/index.html), one in west Miami (MMC), and one in North Miami on Biscayne Bay (BBC). These positions will be primarily online although face to face teaching at the MMC and BBC campuses may be assigned as needed.

Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply to Job Opening ID  522361  at facultycareers.fiu.edu and attach a cover letter, curriculum vitae, diversity statement, and teaching portfolio as a single pdf file. The diversity statement provides an opportunity to discuss a record of or potential for contributing to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The teaching portfolio shall consist of a statement of teaching interests plus representative syllabi, evaluations, assignments, tests and quizzes, innovations, examples of your written feedback, projects you've designed, exemplary student work, kudos, accomplishments, papers on teaching, and anything else that demonstrates your growth as a successful teacher. Candidates will be requested to provide names and contact information for at least three references who will be contacted as determined by the search committee. To receive full consideration, applications and required materials should be received by December 3, 2020. Review will continue until position is filled. Please direct inquiries about this search to the chair of the search committee, Dr. Marcy Kravec (mkravec@fiu.edu).
