Palms of Pasadena Hospitalopened more than forty years ago and has provided high-quality healthcareservices for the people of St. Petersburg and the surrounding areas ever since.Over the years, the hospital has expanded to keep pace with community growth.Today the 307 bed hospital offers a broad range of inpatient and outpatientservices along with specialty programs. Over 350 physicians, 700 employees and200 volunteers share in the hospital’s dedication to advanced care, improvedtechnologies and medical expertise.

The HCA Nurse Residency Program will provide education, supportand guidance to new graduate nurses as they begin their careers in HCAHealthcare hospitals. It is a yearlong, extensive clinicalorientation (StaRN) andprofessional development curriculum for new graduate nurses that culminates inan evidence-based capstone project.

StaRN (10-13 Weeks) – Cohort Start Dates:

10/19/2020 - Med/Surg/Tele, PCU, ICU, ICU Stepdown

11/16/2020- Med/Surg/Tele, PCU, ICU, ICU Stepdown

Specialty Training Apprenticeship for Registered Nurses (StaRN)

The StaRN Program is primarily designed to provide the graduatenurse with the tools necessary to succeed in today’s hospital environment.StaRN will assist the graduate nurse with thetransition out of the classroom setting onto the unit by providing thefollowing training: 

  • Didactic training: introduces nurses to core curriculum andhospital initiatives in a classroom setting

  • Simulation training: reinforces nursing skills learned in a didactic setting

  • Hands on training: preceptorship training with a facility preceptorin the nursing unit

  • Program Overview: 

  • Thetypical schedule during the first portion of the StaRN is Monday throughFriday, 8-hours a day, 40 hours a week but can also include a weekend dayduring the holidays.

  • Thepreceptorship portion of the program consists of three 12-hour shifts per weekand every other weekend at the hospital, following the preceptorsschedule. 

  • Certifications achieved: BLS, ACLS, CPI, EKG, NIH Stroke Scale,and Meditech Modules.

  • Attendance is mandatory for the entire program.

  • Program acceptance requires a minimumtwo (2) year, full time commitment to the hospital. Residents may be obligatedto repay a pro‐ratedportion of the educational costs should they break that commitment.

  • ProfessionalDevelopment Program (remainder of the 1st year)

  • Paired with a trained mentor for integration and socializationinto the culture of professional nursing

  • Frequent resident seminars following a core curriculum forprofessional development

  • Completion of an evidence-based poster presentation 

  • Obtain Charge Nurse and Preceptor skills

    Qualifications

  • Recent graduate of an accredited nursing school within the past12-months.

  • Current FL RN license required prior to program start orappropriate compact licensure. Ifcompact license held, active FL RN license required within 90 days of hire.

  • Previous medical or service industry experience highly desired,but not required.

  • Self-motivated and strong communication skills required.

  • Candidates who will love our patientsare preferred!
