Experience a higherdegree of patient care at Largo Medical Center, part of the HCA West andCentral Florida hospital system. Our 455 bed acute care hospital is located on two campuses—inmid-Pinellas County on the West Coast of Florida, providing medical care forthe residents of Largo, and the nearby cities of Clearwater, Seminole, St.Petersburg and the Gulf Beach communities. We are the only area hospital withall private patient rooms.
The HCA Nurse Residency Program will provide education, supportand guidance to new graduate nurses as they begin their careers in HCAHealthcare hospitals. It is a yearlong, extensive clinicalorientation (StaRN) andprofessional development curriculum for new graduate nurses that culminates inan evidence-based capstone project.

Specialty Training Apprenticeship for Registered Nurses (StaRN)
The StaRN Program is primarily designed to provide the graduatenurse with the tools necessary to succeed in today’s hospital environment. StaRN will assist the graduate nurse with thetransition out of the classroom setting onto the unit by providing thefollowing training:
Didactic training: introduces nurses to core curriculum andhospital initiatives in a classroom setting
Simulation training: reinforces nursing skills learned in a didactic setting
Hands on training: preceptorship training with a facility preceptorin the nursing unit
Program Overview:
ProfessionalDevelopment Program (remainder of the 1st year):
Paired with a trained mentor for integration and socializationinto the culture of professional nursing
Frequent resident seminars following a core curriculum forprofessional development
Completion of an evidence-based poster presentation
Obtain Charge Nurse and Preceptor skills
