POSITIONSUMMARY:


The MentalHealth Technician I provides patient care and supervision under the directionof a Registered Nurse.  The MHT I providescare to these patients via therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, theenvironmental/instrumentation, and other health care members.  The MHT I functions as a member of thetherapeutic team within limits as designated by the policies and procedures ofFWBMC.


 


ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS:


  1. The MHT provides and documents on patientcare and observes patient behaviors based on the nursing process, establishedhospital policies and procedures, unit specific policies and procedures, and/orStandards of Care/Practice.

  2. Assists in the coordination ofnursing/psychiatric care provided in conjunction with the multidisciplinarytreatment team.

  3. Assists in the development and facilitationof MHT lead Goals, Wrap-Up, and Diversional patient groups.

  4. Participates in the safety rounds rotation.
  5. Maintains accurate and detaileddocumentation of assigned safety rounds.

  6. Participates and cooperates in the unitbased Quality Improvement process.

  7. Practices, develops and endorses customerservice skills in relationships with internal and external customers.

  8. Serves as the patient and family advocatewith respect to the patient's right to privacy by protecting confidentialinformation.

  9. Observes reports and documents thepatient's physiological and psychological status, informing a registered nurseof any incongruences in the above.


  1. Actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care or the services delivered.
  2. Demonstrates knowledge of the occurrence reporting system. Uses systems to report potential patient safety issues.
  3. Follows established guidelines for reporting a significant unanticipated outcome in the patient’s care which results in patient harm or potential harm.
  4. Attends in-service presentations and completes all mandatory education requirements.
  5. Uses Performance Improvement Plan to improve patient safety.


  1. Regular, Punctual and dependable attendance.


  1. As a crisis prevention intervention trained staff member, responds to a manpower requests (a.k.a. Dr. Love). 
  2. Manages the therapeutic milieu by monitoring patients for safety and redirecting behaviors as needed.                             
  3. Other duties as assigned.



Qualifications

EDUCATIONREQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED:

  • Vocationalor Technical Degree such as Emergency Medical Technician preferred

  • CNAPreferred

  • 2 YearAssociates Degree preferred

 

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

  • BCLS - AHAHealthcare Provider certification required upon hire

  • CPItraining required within 90 days of hire

 

EXPERIENCEREQUIRED OR PREFERRED: 

  • Oneyear preferred

 

SKILLS,KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

  • Readsand writes Basic English with the basic skills necessary to communicatetherapeutic interactions

  • Knowledgeof body substance isolation

  • Abilityto listen, empathize and respond to patient, family, internal and externalpartners needs

  • Basiccomputer skills
