Facility Description: 

St. Lucie Medical Center (SLMC) is a 229-bed acute care facility accredited by the Joint Commission. Since 1983, St. Lucie has continually provided quality care to the Treasure Coast community. We offer a full range of services including a birthing center, cardiac catheterization lab, cancer care, breast center, minimally-invasive and robotic surgery, general and vascular surgery. The Orthopedic and Spine Institute offers the latest in orthopedic equipment ensuring patients have access to high-quality care. St. Lucie is a Certified Primary Stroke Center, as designated by the Joint Commission, and an American College of Cardiology accredited Chest Pain Center. Additionally, the Emergency Room at the main hospital as well as the freestanding ER at Darwin Square are designed with consideration for special populations such as pediatric and geriatric patients.

Job Description:

The Environmental Floor Care Technician works under the directionof Environmental Services Management and performs the following general duties:

 
  • Provides cleaning services and tile/carpet floormaintenance with consideration of patients, their family and friends, withregard to their personal dignity and respect for their values.
  • Performs environmental tasks dealing withadherence to infection control policies and procedures to maintain a clean andsafe patient environment.
  • Responsible for daily cleaning of patient’s roomas well as cleaning discharged rooms in a timely manner for incomingadmissions.
  • Responsible for cleaning and maintainingnon-patient areas, offices, common areas, hallways, and common area rest rooms.
  • Responsible for proper handling of all chemicalsas well as following proper infection control policies and proper PPE use.
  • Ensures patient rooms and physical hospitalflooring is cleaned and maintained in an efficient, safe, and timelymanner,  Ensures equipment is in workingorder, ensures preventive maintenance is completed on equipment.
  • Demonstrates a knowledge of occurrence reportingsystem.  Uses system to report potentialpatient and environmental safety issues.
  • Ensures proper signage is placed at theappropriate locations when hazards (i.e. wet floor warnings) are plausible.
  • Demonstrates a knowledge of equipment used toclean floors and can identify mechanical issues with the equipment to bereported timely and appropriately.
  • Dust mops and wet mops all tile floors nightlyusing an approved germicidal detergent at the proper dilution ratio, or otherdesignated agent
  • Empties mop bucket frequently and mixes newbatch of cleaning solution     
  • Vacuums and pre-spots all carpeted areas nightlypaying particular attention to corners, edges, and under furniture.    
  • Damp dusts all surfaces using an approved germicidaldetergent mixed in 5 qt. bucket.         
  • When cleaning areas or departments withhighly-technical equipment, takes care not to damage equipment by over-wettingwhen damp dusting.
  • Cleans all rest rooms in assigned areas asoutlined in the training manual.    
  • Cleans offices and ancillary areas according toprocedures outlined in the training manual.     
  • Repositions furniture and equipment after roomcleaning, turns off lights and closes and locks doors. 
  • Cleans corridors following departmentalprocedures and takes extra care to prevent safety hazards to persons usingcorridor.       
  • Maintains supply cart with necessary equipmentand supplies to avoid need to restock during mid-shift.     
  • Stores equipment properly when on break, at mealor in meeting.     
  • Reports any damage to cleaning equipment tosupervisor or department head immediately and takes equipment out of service byplacing an out of order tag on it.
  • Correctly cleans all equipment at start and endof each shift.
  • Stores and organizes equipment at end of shiftin designated hospital areas. 

Qualifications

  • Two years’ experience providing environmentalservices in a healthcare environment preferred.
  • Ability to read, write and converse in Englishrequired.
