University of Florida Seeking Chief of Division of Cardiovascular Medicine

The Chief of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine will provide strategic vision and leadership for the clinical, educational, research and professional development initiatives of this nationally recognized program. Applicants should be at the Professor or Associate Professor rank.  Tenured, tenure-track and non-tenure track candidates will be considered.

The Division of Cardiovascular Medicine is comprised of a dynamic and diverse group of 34 faculty members and 30 fellows providing a full range of clinical services, including general consultative cardiovascular care of inpatients and outpatients, and sub-specialty care in the areas of cardiac imaging, interventional cardiology, cardiac electrophysiology, and advanced heart failure & heart transplantation including mechanical cardiac support.  The Division has a large and mature program in structural heart interventions, and the affiliated Malcom Randall Veterans Administration Medical Center hosts a regional VA referral center for transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). The Division has a long and distinguished record of prominence in the field of Cardiology at the local, regional and national levels including two former Presidents, and four former Governors of the American College of Cardiology. The Division has a robust clinical operation and cares for over 26,000 unique patients each year. Our academic medical center (UF Health) has also made substantial recent investments into heart & vascular care through the construction of a new, state-of-the-art, heart & vascular hospital which includes inpatient and outpatient care facilities, cardiac catheterization and hybrid operating room suites, intensive care unit facilities, and cardiac & vascular operative suites. 

The Division maintains a substantial and sustained commitment to research and discovery at the basic, clinical, and translational level. Currently, the division has both NIH and VA funded faculty members with projects spanning basic research on vascular biology, regenerative cell therapy for cardiovascular disease, drug-resistant hypertension, and women’s heart health. Likewise the division is actively enrolling patients in 12 clinical trials, and accounts for over $8 million in annual research funding from 39 grants.

The Division is also dedicated to excellence in medical education. Many faculty members have received institutional recognition for instructional excellence. Fellowship training is offered in fully accredited programs in Cardiovascular Diseases,  Interventional Cardiology, Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology, and in Advanced Heart Failure & Heart Transplantation. Fellows are given the opportunity to engage in research and many have advanced into careers in academic medicine.

The Division also has a large faculty and fellow presence at the Malcom Randall Veteran's Administration Medical Center, which is one of the largest regional health care facilities in the VA.
