Description:

The University of Florida’s College of Medicine – Jacksonville (UF COM-J) invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair, Department of Anesthesiology.

The department of anesthesiology features more than 30 faculty physicians, nearly 50 allied health providers and 16 residents who provide care in a number of different environments and subspecialties.

Our faculty anesthesiologists provide a full range of inpatient and outpatient care for patients undergoing surgery, including: Ambulatory anesthesia, Cardiovascular anesthesia, Critical Care medicine, General anesthesia, Obstetrical anesthesia (including labor epidurals), Out-of-operating-room anesthesia (e.g. interventional radiology), Pain management, Pediatric anesthesia, and Regional anesthesia.  In addition to hospital-based services, our physicians offer outpatient management of chronic pain at the UF Health Pain Management Center, as well as anesthetic support at the UF Health Proton Therapy Institute.

Anesthesia services are provided at UF Health Jacksonville, a 695-bed private, not-for profit academic health center near Downtown Jacksonville affiliated with the University of Florida; and at UF Health North.  UF Health North is a medical campus located about 10 miles north of downtown Jacksonville that has an inpatient bed tower and an adjoining medical office building. The complex has seven operating rooms, two endoscopy suites, a labor and delivery suite and 91 beds overall.

As part of our mission to train tomorrow's physicians, the department of anesthesiology offers a four-year, ACGME-accredited anesthesiology residency; and one-year fellowships in obstetric anesthesia; and in regional anesthesiology and acute pain medicine.

The University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville is the largest of the three UF colleges - medicine, nursing and pharmacy - located on the approximately 110-acre UF Health Jacksonville campus. The college's 16 clinical science departments house nearly 450 faculty members and 300 residents and fellows. The college offers 32 accredited graduate medical education programs. In addition to graduate medical education, clinical rotations in all the major disciplines are provided for students from the UF College of Medicine in Gainesville. Third-year medical students enrolled at UF spend about 25 percent of their training at the Jacksonville campus, gaining valuable experience in an urban setting.

Reporting to the Dean of the College of Medicine - Jacksonville, the chair is responsible for the overall administrative, academic, and clinical outcomes of the department.  UF seeks an accomplished academician and clinician with an MD or DO from an accredited school, current board certification, and have a national reputation for clinical, educational and scholarly activities appropriate for appointment to the rank of Professor in either a clinical or tenure-track position. Candidates must possess significant leadership experience, such as a section or division chief, vice chair or similar role, with demonstrated fiscal and managerial responsibility. The ideal candidate will be able to grow the department’s clinical programs in concert with the expansion of UF Health Jacksonville.  It is important for the new Chair to possess a vision to ensure that the department grows in rank, reputation, and support the University’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA)’s Mission in cultivating a culture of Inclusive Excellence and a safe environment, where all individuals, experiences and differences are valued and respected. The candidate should have national recognition and be actively involved in professional societies and physician organizations.
