Job Summary

Responsible for purchasing commodity products, chemicals, equipment, and supplies from VWR (Intercompany) and third parties. The Associate Buyer is responsible for all aspects of daily order management and is able to solve problems with innovation and ingenuity. Helps supports the Category Management team and assists in resolution of pricing and product issues. Exercises latitude and applies judgment in determining objectives and prioritizing workload.

MAJOR JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (List in order of importance)

Key owner of the supplier relationship. In conjunction with VWR Category Managers, makes recommendations and resolves the daily tactical supply chain issues such as backorder resolution, open order expediting, lead time management, supplier production issues, etc

Assists in supplier planning sessions in support of VWR goals and objectives.

Serves as liaison between VWR and Suppliers (Intercompany and third parties), maintains positive vendor relationships, inputs to the negotiation of beneficial supplier agreements on behalf of the company.

Supports new product launches, product promotions, or discontinuations. May make suggestions to the planning team with regards to replenishment strategies to optimize inventory investment.

Identifies and corrects Supply Chain constraints by acting as liaison between Sales, Customer Service, Warehouse and Suppliers

Analyzes key trends in order history in the context of the Customers Supply Chain processes to proactively identify and propose key process improvements to the Supplier and VWR functional teams

Expedites, cancels /defers and ensures system generated and manual purchase orders are aligned to support Customer need dates.

Inform sales of any new customer opportunities that you encounter.

Evaluates suppliers based on capability, performance and delivery.

Daily review of stock-outs; accountable for timely resolution of supply chain issues.

Works with suppliers (Intercompany and third parties) to improve cost, quality, delivery dates and lead time

Represents Supply Chain by collaborating with the appropriate VWR functional teams to assist in the resolution of issues such as: damage claims, rejections, losses, returns, over shipments, cancellations, and discontinuations. Commits VWR resources as needed.

Assist peers in managing supply chain standard operating procedures and create new documents when needed

Embraces innovation. Stays alert to opportunities to make processes better and contributes innovative ideas for improvement.

Continual learning focus with demonstrated initiative to acquire new knowledge and experiences

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Training, Experience and Certifications)

BS degree in Logistics, Business, or Mathematics or equivalent experience required;

2- 3+ years working in a procurement capacity

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Those necessary to perform the job competently)

Proficient in MS office suite (Excel, Access, Word), Demonstrated ability to analyze large data sets

Solid written and verbal communication skills English and Spanish

Solid analytical skills

Time management and organizational skills. Focus oriented with attention to detail

Ability to work independently

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL EFFORT (Under Typical Positions)

Typically works in an office environment with adequate lighting and ventilation and a normal range of

Temperature and noise level.

Work assignments are diversified. Examples of past precedent are used to resolve work problems. New

Alternatives may be developed to resolve problems.

A frequent volume of work and deadlines impose strain on routine basis.

Minimal physical effort is required. Work is mostly sedentary but does require walking, standing,

bending, reaching, lifting or carrying objects that typically weigh less than 10 lbs.
