The Access Response Center (ARC) is a state of the art Behavioral Health clinical assessment and patient placement functionThe ARC clinical team is composed of Therapists, Social Workers, Counselors and Nurses who provide mental health assessments for patients of all ages located throughout the hospitals of HCA who may benefit from inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care. Shift Coordinator, Behavioral HealthPatient Access

 

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES – The Shift Coordinator, in conjunction with the Director of BehavioralHealth Patient Access, leads the coordination of the pre-admission assessment process for the Assessment Response Center(ARC) activities. Coordinates shift activities for staff, provides regularupdates to Emergency Departments, and interfaces with community partners forpatient placement needs. Is primarily responsible for managing resources,concerns and productivity in absence of the Manager or Director of BehavioralHealth Patient Access.  

 

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible to ensure appropriate and efficient Behavioral Health Patient Access activity across the division and reallocate assessment resources when necessary.
  • Functions as the “Air Traffic Controller” for the shift by coordinating patient care needs, assigning assessments, and maintaining knowledge of patient status for all patients being seen or placed by the ARC.
  • Acts as a customer-service representative, taking appropriate steps to meet the needs of the callers as well as improve relations with referring providers, interacting with multiple departments and agencies, in order to ensure quality care to patients.  Assists with patient triage, interacting with other call center staff.
  • Meets all of the Core Job Functions of the Clinical Specialist, Behavioral Health Patient Access position. 
  • Supports onboarding, orientation and ongoing training as directed by the Director of Behavioral Health Patient Access.
  • Responds timely to concerns and requests for information in the absence of the Manager or Director of Behavioral Health Patient Access.      

 

DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITEDTO:

  • Follows established policy and procedures in performing job functions
  • Able to assess and reassess needs of patients
  • Works collaboratively with hospital departments to assist managing behavioral health assessment needs
  • Provides ongoing education to patients and families as needed
  • Provides resources and support for patients before, during and after treatment
  • Coordinates and participates with appropriate interested parties and physicians through the patient response inquiry, admission, treatment and discharge process
  • Models and trains other behavioral health team members on managing and tracking inquiry calls
  • Tracks and reports on all key indicators related to calls, assessment, admissions
  • Ensures patient rights and confidentiality
  • Provides input, suggestions and support appropriately
  • Participates as an active member of the multidisciplinary team
  • Completes additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:                                                                                                   

  • Posses a thorough knowledge of current behavioral health concepts, principles and methods of treatment
  • Possess good communication skills verbal and written
  • Possess good organization skills and be able to act on multiple tasks
  • Demonstrates ability to prioritize
  • Ability to follow established policy and procedures when performing job functions
  • Ability to demonstrate good judgment
  • Interacts and communicates with others in a way that promotes a positive and cooperative work environment
  • Understand and be able to train on all the state and federal standards regarding behavioral health assessment, petition, medical screening and patient rights. Ability to channel concerns appropriately

 

EDUCATION:

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling or related field and holds a professional licensure as an independent mental health professional; or
  • Higher Education Degree in Nursing, Master’s preferred, with experience as outlined below.

 

 EXPERIENCE

  • Prefer 1-3 years’ experience in a behavioral healthcare setting performing clinical assessments or in a clinical treatment setting (3 years minimum required for RN’s).

 

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE:

  • Licensed to perform clinical assessments to determine level of care needs and to diagnose according to the current version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual is required.
  • Must hold and maintain current licensure as a mental health professional, such as Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or RN license (RN requires at least 3 years in an applicable mental health environment.
