<p><strong>College of Arts and Sciences</strong></p><p><strong>Position</strong>: Assistant Professor of Sustainable Food Systems                                                                                                                     </p><p>Stetson University seeks an Assistant Professor of Sustainable Food Systems. This full-time, nine-month, tenure-track appointment, beginning August 2021, is for a dynamic teacher and active scholar with enthusiasm for teaching a variety of undergraduate classes within food studies and systems, as well as contributing to other interdisciplinary programs across the University. Specializations in the following areas will be given preference: Food Justice, Food and Agricultural Education, Food Policy, and scientific or technical expertise in urban or innovative food production systems.</p><p><strong>Qualifications:</strong></p><p>This position requires a Ph.D. (awarded by August 2021) in a food system-related field, an active scholarly agenda, and demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduates in both general and specialized areas of food systems with a variety of effective teaching methodologies. We seek a colleague who is actively engaged in sustainability and food system research that allows for the inclusion of undergraduate student collaborators, enthusiastic about interdisciplinary approaches, eager to contribute to a liberal arts-based program and a broader community of undergraduates, and committed to engaging students from diverse backgrounds. We also seek faculty who wish to explore the relationships among disciplines with shared interests in food studies (sustainability, policy, science, culture, communication, education, etc.), and whose scholarly work includes outreach to the local community.  We encourage candidates from underrepresented backgrounds and/or experience in diverse learning environments to apply.</p><p><strong>Responsibilities</strong><strong>:</strong>  </p><p>The teacher-scholar model at Stetson requires that tenure-track faculty teach three courses each semester complemented with quality scholarship and service. A typical rotation of courses will include (1) Introduction to Food Studies, (2) Practicum for Food Production, (3) courses with a focus on race, class, and gender in the food system, and other courses based on program needs. In addition to supporting students in the program, teaching assignments may include courses for the University’s General Education Curriculum, including First-Year Seminars and Junior Seminars. Other responsibilities include participation in mentoring student research and student advising. Candidates should demonstrate a passion for the highest quality of teaching, combined with the ability to produce rigorous peer-reviewed academic scholarship. Scholarly activity leading to publication in peer-reviewed journals and service to the Program, Department, the College of Arts and Sciences, the University, and the profession are required.</p><p>For more information on our expectations in teaching and scholarship and our support for faculty development, please see the Office of the Provost and Academic Affairs website: <a href="http://www.stetson.edu/provost" rel="no-follow">http://www.stetson.edu/provost</a><u>.</u>  </p><p><strong>The Program</strong>:</p><p>The Sustainable Food Systems program (<a href="https://www.stetson.edu/other/academics/undergraduate/sustainable-food-systems.php" rel="no-follow">https://www.stetson.edu/other/academics/undergraduate/sustainable-food-systems.php</a>) is an interdisciplinary program, with contributions from over six disciplines at the university. The program was established in 2018 and offers a five-course minor to students of any major. The program is led by a Program Director, with guidance from a Program Committee. This position is a dedicated faculty line for the SFS program, with the faculty member housed in the Department of Environmental Science and Studies (<a href="https://www.stetson.edu/other/academics/media/ug_environmental-science-and-studies.pdf" rel="no-follow">https://www.stetson.edu/other/academics/media/ug_environmental-science-and-studies.pdf</a>)).
