Job Description

Position Overview

KIPP Public Schools Jacksonville seeks fellows in the 2020-21 school year. Under the direction of our fellowship manager and our school leaders, fellows are placed as co-teachers during their fellowship year. Fellows are considered certified co-teachers in our classrooms.

Fellows are responsible for supporting a positive classroom environment, implementing our curriculum, assessing our students, collaborating with their grade level teams, content teams and fellows cohort, building relationships with families and other duties as assigned. Full Fellow responsibilities are ultimately outlined by their School Leader.

The fellowship model allows fellows to co-teach in their fellowship year with a gradual release model. Fellows are first responsible for small group instruction, supporting transitions, and honing their management skills at the start of the school year and then take on additional responsibilities as the year progresses. Fellows are supported as both individuals and as a cohort through regular coaching and professional development sessions.

The aim of the program is for a fellow to be promoted to a lead teacher position the following school year. Fellows can receive an offer the following school year to be a lead teacher in a single-teacher classroom in any grade level they are certified in where there is an identified opening OR in a co-teaching setting that would allow them to teach with a new teaching fellow.

Teachers are assigned one grade level and are responsible for creating a positive classroom environment, implementing curriculum, assessing students, collaborating with their team, building relationships with families, and other duties as assigned. Full teacher responsibilities are ultimately outlined by their school leader.

For the 2020-21 school year, teachers at KIPP Public Schools Jacksonville work from 7:30 a.m. - 4:15 p.m., Monday through Friday and may have occasional meetings or special school events outside of these hours. Student hours are typically 7:45 a.m. - 3:45 p.m. Hours for teachers and students vary slightly by school. Every Wednesday is a student early release day (1:30 p.m.), which allows teachers to participate in weekly professional development.

OUR CURRENT MODEL

Fellows are placed strategically in one grade level and follow a gradual release model to have meaningful ‘at-bats’ at instructional practices, whole and small group instruction, and managing a classroom. At the elementary level, fellows are placed in primary grades with an experienced lead teacher. At the upper elementary/middle/high school level, fellows are placed in one grade (typically 5th, 6th, or 9th) with an experienced lead teacher. They lead portions of whole group instruction and small group instruction in specific content areas until they are able to lead at least one block daily.

For example, a fellow placed in a first grade classroom would co-teach 26 students for both math and English Language Arts whereas a fellow in sixth grade might co-teach in a math classroom for three blocks and lead instruction for one block.

The initial grade level placement of a fellow does not have to dictate where their lead teacher offer can come from. Fellows have the ability to preference grade levels for future roles.

If a fellow has a preference for grade level during their fellowship year, they should make a note on their application that they are interested in either primary grades, middle school grades, or high school. If interested in working with the older cohorts of students, preferences for subject areas should also be listed. We do not guarantee grade level placements at the time of offers.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Our current compensation and benefits structure is very competitive and is commensurate with experience.

  • Free individual short-term and long-term disability insurance***
  • 403(b) retirement program with a company match***
