Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW
KIPP Public Schools Jacksonville seeks high school teachers for our founding 9th grade classrooms in the 2021-22 school year. Teachers are initially assigned one subject area and are responsible for creating a positive classroom environment, implementing curriculum, assessing students, collaborating with their team, building relationships with families, and other duties as assigned. Full teacher responsibilities are ultimately outlined by their school leader.

For the 2020-21 school year, teachers at KIPP Public Schools Jacksonville work from 7:30 a.m. - 4:15 p.m., Monday through Friday and may have occasional meetings or special school events outside of these hours. Student hours are typically 7:45 a.m. - 3:45 p.m. Hours for teachers and students vary slightly by school. Every Wednesday is a student early release day (1:30 p.m.), which allows teachers to participate in weekly professional development.

OUR CURRENT MODEL

The model for the high school will change over time as more grade levels are added and the model is subject to change.

Students in ninth grade will have a seven period bell schedule. Teachers typically see ~100 students for their core content area. Class size is typically about 25 students per class.

Projected content areas offered in ninth grade include:

  • Science – biology and environmental science
  • English Language Arts

The application for lead high school teacher is open for any of the above content areas. Foreign language and elective teachers should apply through a separate posting.
